Downtown Wadsworth

Main Street Wadsworth

Main Street Wadsworth is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the economic revitalization and historic preservation of downtown Wadsworth. Wadsworth applied for Main Street accreditation, passed a very strict review process, and became Ohio's 22nd Main Street community in March 2016. The organization is overseen by Columbus-based non-profit organization Heritage Ohio, as well as the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Nearby established Main Streets are Kent, Wooster, and Medina. Main Street Wadsworth is working in close collaboration with The City of Wadsworth and the Wadsworth Area Chamber of Commerce to make the downtown the best it can be for all of Wadsworth's residents and visitors.

Four-Point Approach

Main Street Wadsworth is working to revitalize the downtown area using Main Street's proven Four-Point Approach:

  1. Design
  2. Economic Vitality
  3. Promotion
  4. Organization

These are the four committees that have been formed, are comprised of Wadsworth community volunteers, and meet on a regular basis. Main Street Wadsworth is lead by a Board of Directors, who oversee the organization's employee, the Executive Director, as well as the four aforementioned committees.

Eight Principles of Revitalization

Main Street uses eight guiding principles to approach and accomplish historic downtown revitalization:

  1. Comprehensive
  2. Incremental
  3. Self-help
  4. Public/private partnerships
  5. Identifying and capitalizing on existing assets
  6. Quality
  7. Change
  8. Implementation-oriented
